Your January Update

Last year was certainly an unprecedented time in our nation and in our community. It truly was a time of rapid change like I have not experienced before and I am proud that The Puyallup Food Bank and our volunteers were able to help us serve the largest number of clients we have ever served in our 49 years of operation!

I just came on board at the end of 2020 and it was clear to me that the challenge with food insecurity we faced as a community was much deeper than I could have imagined. Due to the pandemic and a rapid growth in unemployment, our staff and volunteers in the months of November and December of last year served more than double the amount of clients compared to 2019. In fact in December alone, we distributed over 330,000 pounds of food. That is 165 tons of essential groceries to help keep our friends and neighbors fed during these difficult times.

As we enter 2021, I see hope. There is a vaccine already being distributed in our community and as an organization, we have grown and are constantly adapting to meet the challenges of this difficult time. Through our strategic partnerships, we have been able to multiply the purchasing power of our monetary donations more than ten times over. Additionally, our community is truly living up to the meaning of our namesake from the Puyallup tribe of Indians which means, “land of generous people.”

The amount of donations and volunteers has continued to match our community’s need and I am confident that the spirit of generosity in our community will not subside, but rather will rise to the occasion. I would like to humbly ask if you would consider becoming a monthly donor to the Puyallup Food Bank? Our community’s need has never been greater, and your support can make a difference in your neighbor’s life. Click HERE to donate.
